IT'S NATIONAL MARSHMALLOW DAY!  With the Labor Day Holiday weekend upon us, the market is THE place to shop for all your bar-b-que and picnic goodies!  Come join us for our Annual Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest, too!  Available at the market now - Corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, cabbage, butter beans, greens, zucchini, Summer & Winter squash, plums, peaches, blackberries, raspberries & blueberries, apples, cantaloupes, watermelons, fresh flowers, pastured beef, sausages, poultry, pork, goat's cheese, local wines, vinegars, Challah, salad dressings, fresh and dried herbs, fruit, eggs, gluten free products, honey, jams and jellies, salsa, cereal, baked goods, candies, mustards, handmade goats milk soaps, fiber products, artisan crafts, perennials and MORE! WATERMELON SEED SPITTING CONTEST
Who can spit the farthest?  Find out this Saturday during our Fourth Annual Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest.  Adults and kids compete separately for prizes.  We'll be giving Two Sets of Tickets Grayhaven Winery's South African Food & Wine Festival (September 13th & 14th) to the Top Two Adult Winners, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for kids up to 16 years old.  Winners must be present to win.  The contest runs from 10-11am THIS Saturday at the market!

FEATURED NON-PROFIT
ChiknEGG's Featured Non-Profit on Saturday, August 30th, 2014 is the Muscular Dystrophy AssociationJoy Elliott has been a volunteer for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for 45 years will be at the market this Saturday Filling The Boot for Muscular Dystrophy.  Muscular dystrophy (MD) is characterized by progressive weakness and degeneration of the skeletal or voluntary muscles which control movement. The muscles of the heart and some other involuntary muscles are also affected in some forms of muscular dystrophy, and a few forms involve other organs as well.  Joy is also one of the families the receive services through the Muscular Dystrophy Association as three of her four children have MD.  You may know Joy from your association with Avery's Branch Farm in Amelia - they do cow shares, beef, chickens and pork on their family farm).  Joy was also recently diagnosed with MD.  We hope you will be generous and add some love to The Boot to help Joy raise money and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy!

Tommy plays acoustic versions of classic rock songs from all time periods.  He hosts open mics and plays throughout the Richmond area.  Jeremy White also plays original acoustic music. Saturday is our Marketeers Club Day, and we have some very special kids participating!  Marketeer Club vendors are kids aged 6-16 who have grown or made the products they bring to market. We certainly hope you will support these young farmers and entrepreneurs by purchasing products from them. UPCOMING FARM TOURS

Go at your own pace. This biological farm tour weekend is self-paced with farms located throughout the area.

VABF will have Information on all of the participating farms in a tour program, a mobile app and on their web site. The tour cost is $25 per vehicle in advance. Entrance tickets will also be available on tour days at every tour farm for $30 per vehicle (or $10 per vehicle for one farm).  (Discounts for VABF members).  Sign up to volunteer and receive a free pass!

We are collecting donated food each week at the markets through our Gleaning Program for our good friends at the Goochland Free Clinic and Family Services. We will be collecting food products that vendors may end up discarding at the end of each market day. In addition, customers will have the opportunity to purchase products, or bring canned or dried food products, for the GFCFS's Food Pantry for donation to needy families and/or bring items in need. How about purchasing an extra dozen eggs for our hungry neighbors for donation? We will be collecting these items weekly at the ChiknEGG booth. And don't forget, we accept SNAP (formerly know as food stamps)! Tell your friends!

We have live music every week, cooking demonstrations, chef's demos, regular children's activities and lots of other fun activities for the whole family. Kids can join our Marketeers Club and join our vendors to sell what they have grown or made themselves, or join our Club Sprouts to try new farm fresh foods for rewards!
