My Manakin Market - Week of June 4th

My Manakin Market - June 4th, 2011.

In honor of the 2011 Virginia Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service being held this Saturday throughout the entire state, My Manakin Market and The Local Agrarian wish to recognize and honor the Public Safety professionals (career and volunteer) who serve our community every day.

We invite all Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service providers with proper identification to come to the market and receive the gift of locally grown and prepared food as a token of our deep thanks and appreciation.

Visit the 2011 Virginia Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service website for more information about the activities throughout the state.  Please, join us in remembering and honoring the memories of those who gave all in service to their communities.

My Manakin Market and The Local Agrarian are also pleased to welcome the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation to the market this Saturday! The Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation is a grassroots organization committed to the eradication of breast cancer through education and advocacy.

VBCF is the only grassroots organization in Virginia devoted solely to representing the needs of women and family members affected by breast cancer. They will also have information on their upcoming fund-raiser, "A Night Of Honkytonk Angels". This high energy event will feature five female fronted and all female bands ranging in style from Acoustic, Folk, Blues, Country and Rockabilly. As well as the music, there will be a classic car and motorcycle cruise-in. This event will be Saturday, June 18th at the Canal Club in the Shockoe Bottom area of Richmond. For more information and advance tickets, go to www.events.org/honkytonkangels

In the spirit of this upcoming event, Andy Vaughan and The Driveline will be bringing their traditional Country sound to My Manakin Market this Saturday, June 4th, as will Katie Grottenthaler of The Lonely Teardrops (who will be appearing at A Night Of Honkytonk Angels).
We hope all of our wonderful market customers and vendors will support both of these worthy causes this weekend by coming out to the market to show your support.

Speaking of wine, why not spend some time at the market and then head on out to the Rassawek Vineyard Spring Jubilee and Heritage Wine Festival?  This is a GREAT family event on an absolutely stunning property.  Tickets are on sale now on the Goochland Chamber of Commerce website, or you may purchase them at the gate.
A new event is debuting in Goochland! The Rassawek Spring Jubilee is a two-day celebration that will showcase the cultural, musical, agrarian and artistic traditions that are the heart and heritage of Goochland County. The Rasaswek Spring Jubilee will feature a variety of activities and demonstrations designed to connect Goochland's unique rustic past with its current crafts, talents and commerce.

The Rassawek Spring Jubilee will take place on May 21 and 22 and will feature a jam-packed music stage, fascinating Virginia traditional arts demonstrations, unique youngster activities and delicious wine tastings throughout the day. The event also boasts a fishing contest in the many lakes on the property, wholesome food provided by local producers and farmers, and dozens of gifted artists and antique vendors.

Rassawek has a rich history that begs to be shared with the community. The Cherokee cabin, originally built in 1910, the 1900’s Lord Burnham greenhouse and the Sailor cabin, built in 1844, were all rebuilt and restored to amazing accuracy and beauty.
