My Manakin Market - Week of June 4th
My Manakin Market - June 4th, 2011.
In honor of the 2011 Virginia Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service being held this Saturday throughout the entire state, My Manakin Market and The Local Agrarian wish to recognize and honor the Public Safety professionals (career and volunteer) who serve our community every day.
We invite all Firefighters and Emergency Medical Service providers with proper identification to come to the market and receive the gift of locally grown and prepared food as a token of our deep thanks and appreciation.
Visit the 2011 Virginia Fallen Firefighter Memorial Service website for more information about the activities throughout the state. Please, join us in remembering and honoring the memories of those who gave all in service to their communities.
My Manakin Market and The Local Agrarian are also pleased to welcome the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation to the market this Saturday! The Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation is a grassroots organization committed to the eradication of breast cancer through education and advocacy.
VBCF is the only grassroots organization in Virginia devoted solely to representing the needs of women and family members affected by breast cancer. They will also have information on their upcoming fund-raiser, "A Night Of Honkytonk Angels". This high energy event will feature five female fronted and all female bands ranging in style from Acoustic, Folk, Blues, Country and Rockabilly. As well as the music, there will be a classic car and motorcycle cruise-in. This event will be Saturday, June 18th at the Canal Club in the Shockoe Bottom area of Richmond. For more information and advance tickets, go to www.events.org/honkytonkangels.
In the spirit of this upcoming event, Andy Vaughan and The Driveline will be bringing their traditional Country sound to My Manakin Market this Saturday, June 4th, as will Katie Grottenthaler of The Lonely Teardrops (who will be appearing at A Night Of Honkytonk Angels).
We hope all of our wonderful market customers and vendors will support both of these worthy causes this weekend by coming out to the market to show your support.
Once again, this week we will have an incredible selection of wonderful fresh produce. Look for onions, potatoes, lettuce, kale, Swiss chard, beets, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, kohlrabi, spinach, fresh & potted herbs and RASPBERRIES (come early for the berries...they won't last long)! We have a great selection of meats, including grass-fed beef, pastured pork, lamb & poultry, fresh caught seafood, crabs and shrimp (including cooked spiced shrimp)! We’ll have cheese this week from Marshall Farms Cheese come and try a sample! Our selection of baked goods includes breads, muffins, pies, quiches and GLUTEN FREE products. We also have honey, candy, homemade spices and lots of other delicious Virginia Grown items available at My Manakin Market! What makes us unique? We are PRODUCER ONLY and support sustainably raised produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, and true artisan crafts! Check out What's In Season now!
|We have raspberries!|
We will also have a huge selection of plants, including indoor exotic plants, bedding plants, hanging baskets, aquatic plants, vegetable starts, herbs, annuals and perennials. My Manakin Market has some wonderful artisan crafters, too, so make sure to keep your eyes open for great gifts throughout the season – look for handmade clothing, jewelry, hand-carved wooden objects, wreaths, bedspreads, fiber products, soaps, knitted/crocheted items and more. And don’t forget to check out ChiknEGG’s Systern Rain Barrels and Earth Machine Composters! William Hale with All Farm Organics will around for a few more weeks (until fall) and will be hanging out near the ChiknEGG booth with his awesome organic compost and popcorn seeds. Come chat with him about your compost needs…
We are open for business every Saturday from 8:00am - Noon, May through October. With 50+ vendors (view our Complete List of Vendors), My Manakin Market promises to bring the highest quality Virginia Grown products to Central Virginia!
Check out our cool interactive Market Map to find your favorite vendor(s), or launch a Product Search to find your favorite products!
We have live music every week, cooking demonstrations, chef's demos and lots of other fun activities for the whole family. ChiknEGG’s intern, Michele Wright (aka The Local Agrarian) will be manning cooking up some yummy treats for all our Public Safety Professionals this week, but you're welcome to come by her booth and watch, ask and learn! Michele coordinates the market’s musical entertainment, chef’s demos and does cooking demonstrations every other week. Visit her tent to see what’s cookin’!
We're also offering wine tastings from two local wineries, Grayhaven and WindSong. Come grab a glass of Sangria or wine and hang-out in the wine corral with a bar-b-q sandwich from Cub Creek Farms - Perrin's Catering!
Rain Policy: The market will be open unless we have thunder storms. If in doubt, check ChiknEGG’s website or call 804-314-9141 for a recorded message.
We are located at 68 Broad Street Road in Manakin-Sabot, just 5 minutes west of downtown Short Pump. For more information and a Google Map, Click Here.
