My Manakin Market CANCELLED for Saturday, August 27th, 2011!

IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENT

ChiknEGG's My Manakin Market has been cancelled for Saturday, August 27th, 2011 due to the impending hurricane.

After much discussion and consultation with the NBC12 Storm Team, we have decided to cancel this Saturday's market.  As of 1:00pm on Friday, the forecast is calling for the storm to arrive earlier than expected, with rain and wind beginning early on Saturday.

For the safety of both our vendors and our customers, we feel that this decision is best for all.

Although this may be a hardship on some of our vendors due to a week's worth of lost income, we hope you will all understand and will come out next week to rally and support them!

See you next weekend!

We are open for business every Saturday from 8:00am - Noon, May through October. With 50+ vendors (view our Complete List of Vendors), My Manakin Market promises to bring the highest quality Virginia Grown products to Central Virginia!

Chef David's Recipe for Watermelon Gazpacho

For those of you who were at ChiknEGG's My Manakin Market last Saturday, you were fortunate to witness Chef David Quisenberry's culinary brilliance at work.  He created a mouth-watering Watermelon Gazpacho and topped it with some love feta cheese and a crispy crustini.  Yum!

Here's Chef David's recipe, as promised:

WATERMELON GAZPACHO

4 cups Watermelon
1 cup Tomato
1 cup Cucumber
1/2 cup Peppers (green or red - add Jalapenos if you like heat)
1/2 cup Red Onion
1/4 cup Cilantro
1/4 Thai Basil

Chop the above.  Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup Olive Oil and 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar, then grind or blend in a food processor until smooth.  Chill overnight, if possible.  Add Salt & Pepper to taste.  Garnish with Feta Cheese and some sort of crusty bread, such as croutons or crustini.

Enjoy!

Richmond SPCA at My Manakin Market - Saturday, August 20th, 2011

On Saturday, August 20th, 2011, the Richmond SPCA will have a booth at ChiknEGG's My Manakin Market farmers market to promote their Thirteen Annual Fur Ball. They will have information about the SPCA and will have raffle tickets available which will benefit the Cinderella Fund for the sick and injured animals in their care.  The raffle is a fundraising component of the upcoming Fur Ball on October 1st, 2011.  ChiknEGG is proud to support the Richmond SPCA, where they have saved 25,452 pets' lives since becoming no-kill in January 2002!  Come by to see them at the market on Saturday!

The ThirteenthAnnual Richmond SPCA Fur Ball is Richmond's only black-tie event for people and their pets. The event is the organization's largest fundraiser to support the Cinderella Fund, which pays for the cost of care and rehabilitation for sick, injured and neonatal homeless animals who come into our care.

The evening includes a cocktail reception and silent auction, a pet presentation down the Grand Staircase at The Jefferson Hotel, a seated dinner and a spirited live auction. The night also includes a raffle.

Last year, the Richmond SPCA cared for more than 2,000 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in need of serious medial attention with Cinderella Fund resources, and delivered preventative medications and general medical care to more than 3,000 orphaned pets awaiting adoption at the center. For more information, including sponsorship opportunities, please contact Liz Bryant, 804-521-1321.

For more details about our fabulous raffle featuring great prizes and to learn how you can purchase tickets (one for $5 or five for $20), please click here.

Also, be sure to bring your two- and four-legged friends to a special shopping night at Saks Fifth Avenue to benefit the Richmond SPCA. Please purchase your tickets online.

To view photos from the 12th Annual Fur Ball, please visit the Richmond SPCA Flickr page and the Flickr page of our great volunteer Rich Terrell.
