Our Community Health Fair at My Manakin Market is THIS SATURDAY!  We have over 15 health care providers coming and anticipate a good crowd, so come early!  Click HERE for a flyer and HERE for more details.

IT'S OCTOBER AND THAT MEANS AUTUMN HARVEST!

Got Squash?  Click for a RECIPE!
And what a harvest we are having (if the farmers can manage to get out there and pick in-between storms)!  We were fortunate here in Virginia not to have lost all of our pumpkins in the hurricane...  Speaking of pumpkins - we have baking pumpkinsThis week, we also have butternut squash and lots of other lovely winter squashes, fresh parsley and cilantro, green beans, beets, radishes, Arugula, peppers (including specialty varieties), a few tomatoes (slicing, cherries), zucchini, cabbage, sweet potatoes, potatoes, eggplant,  fresh herbs, heritage apples, fall raspberries.  We have one producer who will be bringing in some apples from other Virginia farms, as it is extremely difficult to produce applies in this area.  They will also have Asian pears and plums from the Appalachian Valley.  We have a great selection of meats, including grass-fed beef, pastured pork, lamb and poultry. We’ll have cheese this week from Night Sky Farm - come and try a sample! Our selection of baked goods includes breads, muffins, specialty cookies, focaccia, pies, quiches, and even pizza crusts! We also have honey, candy, homemade spices, specialty nuts, jams, jellies, local wines and lots of other delicious Virginia Grown items available at My Manakin Market! What makes us unique?  We are PRODUCER ONLY and support sustainably raised produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, and true artisan crafts!  Check out What's In Season now!  Come early for best selection!

LIVE DEMONSTRATION THIS WEEK!
Shana and Barbara with the Scentsible G'oils will be doing knitting and crotchet lessons on Saturday. They will provide yarn for folks to learn and practice with, and we'll also bring extra needles.  They have lots of great fingerless and fingertip-less gloves, scarves, hoods, and sweaters for the fall and winter season, and they also take special requests such as the baby booties and baby sweater ensemble they recently completed.  Come sit a spell and learn to knit!

Manakin Market has some wonderful artisan crafters, so make sure to keep your eyes open for great gifts throughout the season – look for handmade clothing, jewelry, hand-carved wooden objects, bedspreads, fiber products, soaps, pottery, knitted/crocheted items and more.

Summer Close-Out - Only $12
!
Available at the market!
Don’t forget to check out ChiknEGG’s Systern Rain Barrels and Earth Machine Composters!  We have decided to hold the pricing on our rain barrels and compost bins through the end of the month...  Why not pick up one Saturday - save money while you save water and reduce landfill waist all at the same time!  We have some beautiful cut flowers and plants for sale, too, so make sure to take home a bouquet to brighten up your home or office!  Our Real Housewives of Goochland tanks have been very popular this season.  They are now on sale for $12 in either pink or gray in a variety of sizes.  A portion of the proceeds benefit Goochland Free Clinic and Family Services.  Why not buy one for yourself and a friend and help a worthy organization while you're at it?

MUSIC AT THE MARKET

Click HERE to listen to Phil's music online.
Phil Julian has been writing and performing both Christian music and comedy, sometimes simultaneously, depending on the venue, since 1970.  Phil’s music covers a broad spectrum of styles covering country, folk, contemporary, soft rock, and traditional style hymns. No screaming, no fuzz tones, no jumping off the stage, just a foot tapping rhythm, good down-home acoustical picking, and a message you can take home in your heart. Good listening. His siblings all have the same type of humor, probably genetical, which pops out in spite of any attempts to restrain it and in spite of his Christian convictions. The nut doesn't fall far from the tree. Originally from Seattle, Phil has lived near Richmond, Virginia since 1994.  Contact Phil by email for bookings.

If you know of a band or solo artist who would like to play at the market, please email ChiknEGG or call:  804-314-9141.  Here are the Performance Guidelines for Artists.  Hours for performing are 9:00am-Noon.
