IT'S MUTTON BUSTIN' TIME!

June is Fruit & Vegetable Month at the market! And while you're shopping for this week's groceries, the kids can sign up for Mutton Bustin' and participate in our weekly kid's activity!  We have LOTS of fresh seasonal produce, fresh and dried herbs, meats, baked goods, cereals.local wines, honey, candy, artisan crafts, candles, soaps, fresh-cut flowers, plants (including vegetable starts, aquatic plants and indoor plants), hanging baskets, Japanese Maples, Hostas and MORE!  The market also offers LIVE baby chicks and ducks!  Come prepared to take home your little birds with a box or cage of some kind.  COME HUNGRY - we will have HOT, ready to eat prepared breakfast and lunch for your culinary pleasure, courtesy of Piedmont Smokehouse (The Local Agrarian is taking a one week hiatus).  Come grab breakfast or lunch and sit a spell under the shade while you chow down in-between shopping spurts!  To see a map of the market, Click HERE.  To see a list of our vendors, Click HERE.  To initiate a product search, Click HERE.  And please don't forget to let your friends know about our upcoming Health Fair at the market on June 9th!

WHAT IS MUTTON BUSTIN'?
Goochland Service
This is our Second Annual Mutton Bustin'!  With mutton busting, children ride sheep just like bull-riding cowboys but with no bucking or danger involved. Perfect for children ages 5 to 10 who weigh 55 pounds or less. Each ride is timed, and winners advance to second rounds and finals.  1st place rider gets $25, 2nd gets $15 and 3rd gets $10.  All three top riders get free t-shirts! This thrill-a-minute activity is guaranteed to make memories that will last a lifetime!  Click HERE to download a flyer to share.  This year's Mutton Bustin' is brought to you by Southern States

The Bustin' starts at 11:00am, but kids need to come early to sign up so they can make sure to be able to participate. All participants must sign a waiver.

KID'S ACTIVITY
The kids will be making fruit and vegetable prints out of real food this week.  Be prepared to get a little messy, possibly!

MUSIC AT THE MARKET
Click HERE to hear Phil's songs online!
Market favorite Phil Julian and his friend Doug will be entertaining us this week at the market.  Phil has been writing and performing both Christian music and comedy, sometimes simultaneously, depending on the venue, since 1970.  Phil’s music covers a broad spectrum of styles covering country, folk, contemporary, soft rock, and traditional style hymns. No screaming, no fuzz tones, no jumping off the stage, just a foot tapping rhythm, good down-home acoustical picking, and a message you can take home in your heart. Good listening. His siblings all have the same type of humor, probably genetical, which pops out in spite of any attempts to restrain it and in spite of his Christian convictions. The nut doesn't fall far from the tree. Originally from Seattle, Phil has lived near Richmond, Virginia since 1994.  Contact Phil by email for bookings.  If you know of a band or solo artist who would like to play at the market, please email ChiknEGG or call:  804-314-9141.  Here are the Performance Guidelines for Artists.  Hours for performing are 9:00am-Noon.

CRITTER CORNER
We always have live animals to pet!
Kid's - come and see what critters Christopher and Annabelle, our Local Agrarian Critter Corner farmers in training, will have at the market for you to pet and visit with!  Christoper and Annabelle will be happy to show you their farm critters and share their knowledge with young and old(er) market shoppers!  They have a few things for sale that they have made themselves and are donating a portion of their proceeds to charity animal rescue groups!  We are very proud of these young, forward-thinking agrarians!

Join our Club Sprouts!
We have live music every week, cooking demonstrations, chef's demos, regular children's activities and lots of other fun activities for the whole family. Kids can join our Marketeers Club and join our vendors to sell what they have grown or made themselves, or join our Club Sprouts to try new farm fresh foods for rewards!  Contact ChiknEGG’s Special Events Coordinator, Beth Hopkins for more information on our children's activities.
