Father's Day at My Manakin Market

My Manakin Market - June 16th, 2012

ITS FATHERS DAY AT THE MARKET!

Did you know that
one cup of blackberries contains
2 grams of protein,
62 calories and 7.6 grams
 of dietary fiber
?
We have so much produce coming into season this month!  Tomatoes and beans and berries, oh my!   We have LOTS of fresh seasonal produce, fresh and dried herbs, berries, meats, baked goods, cereals, local wines, honey, candy, artisan crafts, candles, soaps, homemade sorbet, fresh-cut flowers, plants (including vegetable starts, aquatic plants and indoor plants), hanging baskets, and MORE!  COME HUNGRY - we will have HOT, ready to eat prepared breakfast and lunch for your culinary pleasure, courtesy of The Local Agrarian and The Haywood Grill.  Come grab breakfast or lunch and sit a spell under the shade while you chow down in-between shopping spurts!  Mr. Leonard's Knife Sharpening Service will be vending Saturday, so bring your knives, scissors, etc. to the market to be sharpened!  To see a map of the market, Click HERE.  To see a list of our vendors, Click HERE. Augusta Gunworks and Forge is a working forge and Eighteenth Century gun shop.  They specialize in fabricating early American ironware for the home, hearth and garden.  Kent Smith will be demonstrating his handmade Longrifle on Saturday, so stop by stall# 38 to see his fine craftsmanship!  Here's a link to American Longrifle's organization for more information on longrifles!

KID'S ACTIVITY
The kids will be making Father's Day cards for dad for our Kid's Activity, so moms - make sure to bring the kids over to the picnic table area where all the fun happens!

MUSIC AT THE MARKET
We are pleased to have Harry Gore, local rock-n-roll warrior and gospel rocker, come play for us on Saturday.  Some of you will remember Harry, who has played with market favorite Phil Julian.  We have always enjoyed his classic rock-n-roll jams and will be a popular market musician in his own right.  Please take the time to thank Harry for stepping up to the plate at the last minute to fill in for us!  To book Harry for your next party or gig, email him or give him a call at 804-321-9250.  If you know of a band or solo artist who would like to play at the market, please email ChiknEGG or call:  804-314-9141.  Here are the Performance Guidelines for Artists.  Hours for performing are 10:00am - 1:00pm.

SPOTLIGHT ON NON-PROFIT
Visit GFCFS Online!
Goochland Free Clinic and Family Services will be at the market on Saturday.  This valuable organization provides healthcare and basic human services to Goochland County residents in need.  Please stop by their table to visit with them and learn more about what they do for county residents.

CRITTER CORNER
We always have live animals to pet!
Kid's - come and see what critters Christopher and Annabelle, our Local Agrarian Critter Corner farmers in training, will have at the market for you to pet and visit with!  Christoper and Annabelle will be happy to show you their farm critters and share their knowledge with young and old(er) market shoppers!  They have a few things for sale that they have made themselves and are donating a portion of their proceeds to charity animal rescue groups!  We are very proud of these young, forward-thinking agrarians!

Join our Club Sprouts!
We have live music every week, cooking demonstrations, chef's demos, regular children's activities and lots of other fun activities for the whole family. Kids can join our Marketeers Club and join our vendors to sell what they have grown or made themselves, or join our Club Sprouts to try new farm fresh foods for rewards!  Contact ChiknEGG’s Special Events Coordinator, Beth Hopkins for more information on our children's activities.
