February News Update

Ready for Spring yet?
Greetings fellow food and farming enthusiasts!  I hope everyone is staying warm and cozy on this wintery day.  I have been dreaming of spring, and currently have all my seed catalogs spread out all over the dining room table, and plan to do my seed inventory and get my order(s) ready to place soon.  St. Patty’s Day is when I will be putting in potatoes and peas, and getting seeds started in the greenhouse.  Can’t wait!  Isn’t the picture of these strawberries mouth-wateringly yummy???

If you’re considering being a vendor at this year’s farmers market, the online application is active!  The market is a great place for incubating a burgeoning cottage industry business.  And don’t forget about our Marketeer’s Club for children ages 6-16…they can sign up to vend once a month for only $15 for the entire season.

We’ve got all our special themes picked out for the season and have them all listed on the ChiknEGG Calendar on our website.  We also have opportunities for Sponsorships, Volunteers and Musicians.  If you have a question about any of our programs or opportunities at My Manakin Market, please feel free to contact our new Special Events Coordinator, Allison Schaller.  She can be reached by email or call 804-928-6462.

Are you planning on attending the upcoming Virginia Biological Farming Conference at the Koger Center in Richmond, or one of the many great workshops prior to the conference?  If so, make sure to register this weekend, as registration closes early next week.  Make sure to come and say hello to me at the ChiknEGG booth!

Registration is also open for the upcoming Two-Day Chicken Intensive in Virginia Beach in March.  Don’t delay…sign up today!

Stay warm!
