Rassawek Spring Jubilee Wine & Heritage Festival

Visitors will enjoy a blend of two exceptional festival experiences on one amazing property.
The Rassawek Vineyards in Goochland County, is home to both the Wine Festival and Heritage Show.
The Heritage Show offers activities and demonstrations that are sure to please adventurers of any age. Take a ride on the steam train through the vineyard, listen to live acoustic music, check out the antique cars, explore a tree house unlike any other, enjoy fun activities for children, enter in the popular fishing derby, visit with the 4-H animals, sample local produce, baked goods and home-cooked food, watch artisans at work and learn about heritage traditions through a variety of cultural and agrarian demonstrations.
The Wine Festival features nine Virginia wineries, including Rassawek's own Byrd Cellars. Sample some of the region's best wine while strolling along one of the property's many lakes or while relaxing on the porch of the historic Cherokee Cabin. Enjoy hand-crafted chocolate and gourmet food, the perfect complement to any wine experience. You won't want to miss Virginia's most unusual wine tasting room- an original greenhouse from James Madison's Montpelier.
Visitors can purchase a combined ticket or a ticket to either the Festival or Heritage Show.

Celebrate Earth Day!

ChiknEGG will be participating in the upcoming Earth Day Festival at the 17th Street Farmers Market on Saturday, April 20th.  This is the 20th year for this traditional Earth Day Festival, which kicks off in Shockoe bottom from 11am to 5pm.  Come join us for some great live music and lots of great Eco-Opportunities for the entire family!  Click HERE for directions.

You can also find ChiknEGG at the Down to Earth 2013 event at Bass Pro Shops in Ashland on Sunday, April 21st.  A variety of activities are planned for all ages.  children can enjoy face painting, coloring contests, and much more.  There will be numerous exhibits and demonstrations (including a composting demonstration by ChiknEGG) occurring throughout the day, and lots of door prizes will be given away.  Enjoy some food while listening to a special performance!  For directions to Bass Pro Shops, click HERE.

This year, Virginia Association for Biological Farming is offering a stand-alone workshop prior to the Virginia Biological Farming Conference - Farm School for Beginners, that is designed to introduce aspiring farmers and ranchers to Whole Farm Planning.  This all day workshop will feature resources and tools developed as part of the Virginia Beginning Farmer and Rancher Coalition Project curriculum.  Several farmers will share their knowledge and expertise with their own farming endeavors.  This year's VABF Farm School is sponsored by Farm Credit, the Experts in Rural Finance, and by Whole Foods Short Pump!

Workshop participants will travel by bus to the farm tour at Tricycle Gardens, Richmond's Premiere Urban Farm and Tricycle Gardens' Learning and Demonstration Site on Friday, February 10th, leaving from the Holiday Inn Koger Center at 8:00am and returning at 11:30am.  For those participating in the Farm School for Beginners course who wish to drive themselves, click HERE for directions to Tricycle Gardens.

This year, VABF is offering a stand-alone Pre-Conference - Starting a New Farm Enterprise, that is designed to appeal to beginning or aspiring farmers.  This all day workshop will feature resources and tools that beginning or aspiring farmers need to consider in order to develop a successful farming enterprise.  Several farmers will share their knowledge and expertise with their own farming endeavors.  This year's pre-conference is sponsored by Farm Credit, the Experts in Rural Finance!

The VABF trade show begins at 11 am. Official welcome, youth program, and opening plenary session start at 1 pm.

We hope you will join us for this informative, always stimulating event.  February 10th Pre-Conference options begin at 10 am (please note - there is a completely stand alone Pre-Conference on February 9th...details above), followed by our traditional food-festival potluck-type lunch for which we ask everyone who wants to join us to bring a dish of food to share.  We provide paper plates, cups, and flatware.
